Has anybody ever tried this?

Filed under: Ideas — admin @ 1:32 am

I have been thinking about a way to monetize digg. What do you guys think about making a cool landing page advertising a specific offer etc and trying to get it to the homepage of digg. Although it would obviously get buried/people would say it is spam it would probably make some bank for the time that it is on the homepage. Sorry to post 2x within a 5 minute time period but it just came to me and i felt the urge to blog about it,

  1. It would have worked last year but the folks on Digg can spot that kind of thing a mile away now. Folks on Digg don’t click ads… You might make a little off a CPM banner deal but the few dollars you make off something like that wouldn’t be worth the effort it would take to create something digg worthy. Most people I know do that sort of thing to get links, not ad or affiliate revenue. They spend all week creating a cool list of some sort or whatever and then submit it to digg, IM everyone they know to vote for it and see if it generates any links or not.

  2. That’s the thing with digg though… something has to be worth reading. I have had good experience with stumbleupon in a similar way. I found a really awesome video, embeded it into my site, and submitted it. Tons of people kept thumbs-upping it and I had a few days with 5000+ uniques visitors. The problem I has though, was getting a decent clickthrough ratio. People are just interested in finding cool sites, not really to buy things or click advertisements. I spose if you found a really good niche you could try that with some affiliate offers and I bet an opt in would do alright…

    yea :)
